Dr. Stephen L. Noble is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon. He is a decorated United States Navy veteran, having served on active duty as a general surgeon and cardiothoracic surgeon. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2016 as part of Operation Resolute Support. His clinical interests include minimally invasive cardiothoracic surgery, health outcomes disparities, heart disease prevention, cancer screening and prevention, and the integration of science and technology in medicine.
A native of Portland, OR, he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Xavier University, of Louisiana. He attended Indiana University School of Medicine, completing the Master of Science in Medical Sciences (MSMS) Program, and earned his medical degree from there as well. He completed a residency in general surgery at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR. Following his training, he began his active duty career at the Robert E. Bush Naval Hospital in Twentynine Palms, CA, serving as a general surgeon at one of the largest military training centers in the nation. After concluding his tour there, Dr. Noble completed his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at The Ohio State University, serving as chief resident and receiving the Housestaff Citizenship Award. Dr. Noble was then stationed at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) in Portsmouth, VA, one of three military treatment facilities in the Navy that perform cardiothoracic surgery services. During his tenure at NMCP, Dr. Noble served as the Chairman of the Thoracic Tumor Board and created the Adult Thoracic Robotic Surgery Program. He is an entrepreneur, healthcare executive, and consultant. He is a cardiothoracic surgeon at Chesapeake Regional Healthcare and medical director of the Lung Cancer Screening program. Passionate about mentorship, he is an author of the children’s book The Heart of the Hero: The Dr. Daniel Hale Williams Story and an associate producer of the documentary Black Men In White Coats.
Dr. Noble has had various leadership positions, is the recipient of numerous awards, and a member of several organizations, including Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the American College of Surgeons, Association of Black Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons, and the National Medical Association. He has published several articles in peer-reviewed academic medical journals and was an Assistant Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, having actively participated in the education of medical students and the training of general surgery residents.
